About the art

01

Untitled is a monochromatic work by Lee Bae that reflects on gesture, material, and the experience of time through the use of charcoal and acrylic. The composition is formed through repeated, elemental movements that are subsequently sealed, transforming fleeting actions into lasting traces. This process creates a sense of stillness, where motion is suspended and preserved, allowing the surface to function as a record of duration rather than a single moment. Lee Bae is a Korean artist known for his immersive exploration of black as both material and concept. Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, he has developed an abstract language that emphasizes physical process, transformation, and temporal presence. Charcoal is central to his practice, serving as a metaphor for cycles of life and change, as well as a means of capturing movement and memory within the work itself.
