About the art
01Completed in the summer of 2010, Helix is a remarkable artistic installation designed by Dutch artist Jan Hendrix in collaboration with the architectural firm Legoretta & Legoretta of Mexico. The installation stands as a testament to the fusion of art, architecture, and engineering. Zahner, a prominent engineering firm, engineered and manufactured the painted aluminum panels and substructure in Kansas City. Once completed, the large metal plates were shipped to Doha, Qatar, where local installers meticulously placed them on both the interior and exterior frameworks, contributing to the seamless integration of the artwork into its surroundings. The Helix project is composed of hundreds of massive, intricately designed waterjet-cut aluminum panels. Each panel is individually painted, creating a dynamic visual experience that interacts with light and shadow. The centerpiece of the installation is a 40-foot-high tower located in the central courtyard of Multaqa, replicating Jan Hendrix’s original drawings. This installation beautifully merges nature-inspired elements with architectural precision, enhancing the space and offering a stunning visual dialogue between art and the surrounding environment.
