About the art

01

The renowned American sculptor Karen Kasper created life-size bronze sculptures titled Gazal Al Shaqab, which serve as a tribute to and an immortalization of Qatar’s beloved world champion show horses—Al Added Al Shaqab, Ghazal Al Shaqab, and Marwan Al Shaqab. Displayed at the entrance of Al Shaqab in Education City, these magnificent sculptures celebrate the grace, strength, and spirit of these iconic Arabian horses. They not only honor their enduring legacy, but also reflect Kasper’s deep admiration and affection for these horses, as well as for Arabian horses in general, shaped by over 27 years of involvement with the breed. Each sculpture captures the unique beauty and character of the horses, meticulously crafted with care and precision. Kasper skillfully balanced their distinct personalities, while ensuring that no one sculpture overpowers another. Each horse is portrayed with his own dynamism and spirit, yet all stand as equals. Kasper has had a personal connection with these horses since their birth in Qatar and finds it especially rewarding to have witnessed their journey to world champions. She expressed great excitement in seeing them mature into such remarkable show horses. Kasper considered it a privilege not only to observe and study these horses closely but also to physically engage with them, allowing her to create detailed, lifelike portraits that capture their true essence through her art. These sculptures stand as a tribute to both the extraordinary legacy of these horses and the remarkable growth of equestrian sports in Qatar.
