About the art

01

The Al Azzm sculpture designed by His Excellency Sheikh Hassan Bin Mohammed Al Thani embodies both artistic innovation and the core values of Qatari society. The artwork situated in Qatar Foundation’s Education City symbolizes determination, resilience, and commitment — key principles at the heart of Qatar Foundation’s mission. Drawing inspiration from the Qatari artist Jassim Zaini’s Al-Bawareh from the 1990s, Al Azzm represents a metaphor for overcoming challenges with perseverance, likened to breaking through a storm. This concept reflects not only personal strength but also the broader collective spirit of Qatar. In particular, the sculpture is a tribute to Qatari women, portraying them as symbols of both the homeland and the family, embodying the deep-rooted connection between the land, its people, and their enduring will to overcome adversity.
