About the art

01

The Endless VI by Jaume Plensa features an ambiguous emotional expression due to the absence of facial features, leaving the figure open to interpretation. Characters from diverse language scripts are fused together to form the figure of a sitting man, his arms wrapped around his body in a gesture of embrace. The integration of multiple scripts not only celebrates linguistic diversity but also emphasizes the theme of unity, as it brings together a variety of cultures and languages in a single, cohesive form. Plensa’s art aims to highlight the interconnectedness of humanity, evoking beauty through the representation of shared experience. As he has stated, "One letter alone is insignificant, but combined with others, it forms a word. Words create texts, and so forth. Alone, a person is nothing, but together with others, we become family, a community, a city, a nation." This philosophy underpins the artist’s broader exploration of identity, connection, and the strength found in collective unity. Through this work, Plensa invites the viewer to reflect on the importance of collaboration and the shared human experience.
