About the art
01Tony Cragg (Sir Anthony Douglas Cragg), a renowned British sculptor, draws deep inspiration from natural forms and the intricate structures that define the world around us. His work strives to create shapes that are entirely original, blending organic forms with a sense of geometry. These sculptures evoke elements of the natural world, yet they also have the ability to reflect and engage with their surrounding architecture. As viewers interact with the sculpture Elliptical Column, it continuously transforms, adapting to its environment and offering a dynamic visual experience. Cragg explains his artistic process, saying, “I like to explore the internal structure of objects – the human figure, for instance, is organic yet composed of numerous geometries: our organs, bones, cells, and molecules. I then manipulate this structure until it elicits an emotional response from me.” His work focuses on how the human body and other organic structures are composed of diverse, interrelated geometries. Through manipulation of these forms, Cragg creates sculptures that aim to stir emotions, pushing viewers to reflect on both the internal and external worlds that shape human experience.
