About the art

01

Sand Columns (Instalación Columnas) is composed of five ceramic forms inspired by desert landscapes and the cultural heritage of nomadic societies. Referencing Arab desert environments, the work reflects themes of movement, endurance, and the human relationship with land and time. Installed in the Emir’s Hall at Education City, the vertical columns create a quiet dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity, acting as subtle markers within the space rather than monumental statements. Paloma Torres is a Mexican visual artist whose practice centers on sculpture and ceramics. Trained at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas and the San Carlos Academy at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), her work explores material processes and cultural narratives through clay. Her sculptures have been widely exhibited internationally and form part of major collections, including the de Young Museum in San Francisco and the APEC Sculpture Park in Da Nang. She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, based in Geneva, Switzerland.
