About the art
01Untitled is a monochromatic work that explores gesture, stillness, and the passage of time through the use of charcoal and acrylic. Composed through repeated, elemental marks, the piece reflects a quiet intensity in which movement is suspended and preserved. Each gesture is fixed with an acrylic medium, reinforcing the idea of conservation and memory, as if capturing fragments of time and allowing them to be revisited and reinterpreted as they endure. Lee Bae is a Korean artist known for his immersive, monochromatic practice that centers on the material and symbolic depth of black. Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, he has developed a distinctive abstract language that blurs disciplinary boundaries. Charcoal plays a central role in his work, serving as both a material and a metaphor for transformation, cycles of life, and time. Through his practice, Lee Bae investigates the physical presence of materials and their ability to record movement, duration, and change.
