About the art
01Calligraphy of the Sea is an abstract mural by Adán Paredes inspired by coastal winds and ancient calligraphy, drawing on the rhythm of writing and poetic expression. Composed of high-fired ceramic tiles in ochre-colored clay, the work reflects a dialogue between movement, texture, and surface. Through its material language and patterning, the mural pays tribute to the landscapes of Qatar and the architectural context in which it is situated, translating natural and cultural references into an abstract visual composition. Adán Paredes is a Mexican sculptor, ceramist, and archaeologist whose practice bridges ancestral traditions and contemporary abstraction. Trained in archaeology at the National School of Anthropology and History in Mexico, his work is informed by ritual, symbolism, and a deep engagement with material processes. Clay remains central to his practice, alongside explorations of glass, metal, steel, and printmaking. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Paredes has exhibited widely across Mexico, the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
