Dr. Marc Owen Jones is an academic specialized in disinformation, propaganda, and digital authoritarianism in Arabic and English social media. Driven by issues of social justice and a specific interest in the Arabian Gulf, his research spans a number of topics, from historical revisionism and postcolonialism to digital information controls and critical data studies.

Dr. Jones is working on a number of research projects, including propaganda and Twitter bots, mapping sectarian hate speech, the diffusion of online disinformation, and digital climate ‘greenwashing’.

Dr. Jones’ research has been featured in a number of international outlets, including the New York Times, BBC, Bloomberg, Time Magazine, New Statesman, The Washington Post, and The Independent.

Dr. Jones is the author of ‘Political Repression in Bahrain’ published by Cambridge University Press and ‘Digital Authoritarianism in the Middle East’ published by Oxford University Press, and is the co-Editor of ‘Bahrain's Uprising’ by Zed Books and ‘Gulfization of the Arab World’ by Gerlach Press.
