Dr. Al Malki established the Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) in 2011 and ran it as Executive Director until 2015. Before that, she was Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, where she taught courses in writing composition, postcolonial literature, theories of translation, and Islamic feminism.

Dr. Al Malki has published articles in numerous journals in the United States and UK. Her edited book “The Writer’s Craft: Teaching Creative Writing in Qatar” has been published as a part of Doha the Arab City of Culture of 2010. Her Book “Arab Women in Arab News: Old Stereotypes and New Media” (2012) is published by Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation and Bloomsbury Academic, UK.

Dr. Al Malki holds a PhD in comparative literature from the SOAS University of London, where she also earned a master's degree in English-Arabic applied linguistics and translation.
