Dr. Roberto Di Pietro is a professor of cyber security at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), leading the efforts to establish a world-class research and innovation center in cyber security.

From 2013 to 2017, Dr. Di Pietro served as the global lead for security research at Bell Labs. In that capacity, he has coordinated three security research departments (based in Paris, Munich, and Espoo), counting 40+ researchers and research engineers, striving to lead security research in alignment with the strategic business goals and to move research results into innovation.

Dr. Di Pietro was also a professor at the University of Padova (with tenure). Prior to that, he was a faculty at the University of Roma Tre, always dedicated to security research, research mentoring, and innovation. In 2010-11, Dr. Di Pietro was awarded Chair of Excellence at University Carlos III, Madrid, for his research results in security.

Dr. Di Pietro started his computer science career back in 1995, serving for a few years as senior military technical officer, with the Italian MoD, managing complex ICT projects with focus on security, aiming at supporting investigations and systems forensics.

Dr. Di Petro holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Rome.
