Dr. Marc Vermeersch is the Executive Director of Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), under Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), where he leads scientific and technology-related activities, to tackle Qatar’s energy, water and environment challenges, while also addressing the impact of climate change on the State of Qatar and the region. His fields of expertise include sustainable energy, water security, solar energy, renewable energy, photovoltaics, energy efficiency, technology transfer, and material science.

With more than 20 years of experience in research, technology transfer and innovation, Dr. Vermeersch has joined QF with first-hand knowledge in research, development and deployment (RD&D), as well as manufacturing. Prior to his appointment at QF, he worked at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) as professor of practice and managing director of the Solar Center.

Before joining KAUST, he has been working for more than eight years for the French oil and gas company Total, initiating Total's efforts in sustainable (solar) energy through research & development, and for more than ten years, for the French Group Saint-Gobain, where he occupied several positions in technology transfer and product development.

Dr. Vermeersch holds a PhD in physics from Université de Namur, Belgium.
