At Qatar Foundation, we’ve continuously challenged the assumptions of classroom education to rethink and refine models of how students learn, while continuing to deliver the highest quality of education available.
Innovative education leads to innovative thinking, and we strongly believe that the time is right to disrupt an educational approach that has remained largely unchanged for over a century. We want to make education more adaptive to the needs of students, and empower every child’s curiosity, creativity, and individuality—fostering an attitude for learning that will build a more resilient world. This is what we call disruptive education, and we are actively pursuing it through our ecosystem of schools, universities, and other scholastic centers.
Moving forward, we must recognize that whatever we have been doing for centuries is obviously not working, and the pandemic has proven to us that even the quick fixes we have had are also not working.
Here’s a look at how we are leading the way in developing and applying innovative learning practices to revolutionize learning.
Our pre-university programs are breaking the linear model of K-12 education by offering a wide range of curriculum options that offer customized learning based on one’s needs and interests. These include specialized institutes in STEM, music, heritage, special needs, and leadership education, as well as progressive schools that focus on experiential rather than formal learning.
Instead of establishing a single university offering programs in various fields, we pioneered a new approach to higher education that consists of hand-picked top universities from around the world located on one campus, allowing students to study at multiple universities at the same time and fostering unique multidisciplinary collaborations between different schools.
To ensure our pursuit of disruptive education also engages global trends and transformations in education, and to also share our learnings with the rest of the world, we regularly host global platforms of engagement. These include the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) and the LEAPS Summit.
Through initiatives like the Education Development Institute (EDI) and Motivation Accreditation Review Qatar (MARQ), we are constantly evaluating our curriculum, student outcomes, and pedagogical methods. These consistent feedback loops help educators and parents alike to challenge what’s not working in favor of our students and make our education more agile.

Our flagship education forum, the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) is an international, multi-sectoral platform for creative thinking, debate, and purposeful action on building the future of education through collaboration.
Academyati is an innovative school that uses an unconventional curriculum to nurture children’s inner gifts and support them in becoming ethical creators who are aware, confident, empowered, and bringing positive change to the world. The school’s philosophy is to develop each child’s personal strengths and interests, allow them to exercise their agency, choose what they want to learn, set their individualized learning goals, and learn through play. With evolving learners, Academyati is constantly looking to adapt and reshape its model and learning environments to respond and best serve their individual needs.
Qatar Academy for Science and Technology (QAST) is a high school designed to develop Qatar's next generation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) innovators. It’s Qatar’s only STEM school offering both a US Diploma through Advanced Placement Courses and UK A Levels certification. Starting from Grade 8, the program offers three course curriculums in Engineering, Computer Science, and Biomedical Sciences. Students actively participate in internships and research projects with academic institutes and industrial organizations all over the country, including their neighbors in Education City.
The Education Development Institute (EDI) leads professional learning, supports curriculum improvement, and builds leadership capacity of educators across Qatar, enabling them to engage with and apply the best and most promising educational practices. EDI collaborates with global experts to offer learning opportunities, organizes national conferences and events for educators, develops professional learning programs that address the needs of individual schools, and much more.
Qatar Academy Doha (QAD) is the largest school in the Qatar Foundation family, with over 1,900 students. QAD is organized administratively into a Primary School, Middle School, and High School, with an Early Education Center (EEC) for children as young as 6 months of age.
Founded in 2010, Hamad Bin Khalifa University is a homegrown graduate-focused university and research institute that acts as a catalyst for transformative change in Qatar and the region. Through applying creativity to knowledge, students at HBKU have the opportunity to discover innovative solutions that are locally relevant and have a global impact.
