As Qatar hosts the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, we’re supporting a national effort to showcase the rich culture of the Arab world through a spotlight on inspiring Palestinian voices and stories. Throughout the tournament, Qatar Foundation will lead numerous programs and activities to present Palestine to the world.
As part of the GOALS Exhibition, which highlights grassroots stories about football, community, and culture, we will be engaging Muna El Kurd in a storytelling and poetry event on 5 December, from 3-4:15pm at Multaqa (Education City Student Center).
Muna El Kurd is a Palestinian activist based in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in Jerusalem. Along with her twin brother, Mohammed El Kurd, she helped bring international attention to the illegal annexation of Palestinian homes in Sheikh Jarrah by settlers. She has been a notable critic of Israel's forced displacement of Palestinians in Jerusalem and gained prominence for her activism on social media. Muna will be sharing her story and reciting some of her mother's poems during this 75-minute conversation.
Doha Debates is a Qatar Foundation initiative founded on the belief that the world will be a better place if we make room to listen to and understand all sides of an issue and seek consensus together. This town hall, featuring Palestinian cultural figures and supporters of the Palestinian national movement, will provide a snapshot of the current conversation among Palestinians about the future of their collective identity, illustrated by the lived realities of our guests. Dena Takuri, a Palestinian American journalist with AJ+, will moderate this town hall-style conversation with prominent Palestinian cultural figures and approximately 20 students. On stage will be professor Dr. Tariq Dana, Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi and Palestinian American comedian Maysoon Zayid.
The event will take place at 4pm on 15 December in the Qatar National Library. To register for attending the event, please click here.
The D’reesha Performing Arts Festival seeks to unearth talent from all corners of the region and bring them together for a week-long celebration of Arab theatre, poetry, music, storytelling, and so much more. During this unmissable event, we’re hosting a variety of performances from Palestinian artists.
