The festival saw the participation of more than 2000 students from 150 schools with the AmanTECH activities proving to be highly popular. Parents and children were required to perform tasks related to safety online to learn specific skills including identifying fake news vs real, safe online gaming, self-image and reputation online.

Launched in May 2014, AmanTECH, which stands for “safe tech world”, aims at promoting digital literacy amongst parents and improving children’s digital safety. Since launch, Vodafone’s AmanTECH program has been hugely successful in engaging parents, children and teachers in the subject of online safety through a series of activities in a number of Doha malls, public parks and schools. Most recently, AmanTECH engaged 500 children at the Ministry of Transport and Communications’ TumuhaTEC Youth Festival held during QITCOM this month.

Dana Haidan, Head of CSR at Vodafone Qatar said: “At Vodafone we aim to empower children with the right tools and understanding to navigate the digital world safely and to take full advantage of its benefits. We are committed to make AmanTech a long-term initiative that will provide children and their parents with everything they need to know and do to stay safe in today’s ever-expanding digital world.”

In 2017, AmanTech will continue to reach out to parents and children aged between the ages of 5 to 17. The program will adopt a three-pronged approach with a focus on awareness, education and technical support.
