The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) – an initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF) – recently organized a roundtable for key decision-makers in education to debate ways of improving knowledge-sharing and cooperation efforts. The event, which took place in May, was held on the sidelines of 2019 Concordia Americas Summit in Bogotá.
Concordia Americas Summit is Concordia’s flagship regional symposium convening in Latin America, which focuses on issues across the region. The forum brought together a number of high-level speakers, including the President of Colombia H.E. Iván Duque Márquez – who, during the forum, met with WISE representatives – and government officials from across the continent.
WISE’s roundtable brought together a number of high-level stakeholders, such as the Vice-Minister of Higher Education for Colombia, Luis Fernando Pérez Hurtado, the former Minister of Education for Mexico, Aurelio Nuño Mayer, as well as representatives from government agencies, and leaders of Colombian foundations.
During the session, attendees learned about QF’s vision and initiatives, including the innovative programs led by QF’s Pre-University Education. Speakers included Hisham Bin Hashim, Content Development Specialist, Marketing and Events, QF, and Jennifer Yakub, Head of Partnership and Business Development, PUE Strategic Initiatives, QF.
Elyas Felfoul, Director of Partnerships and Policy Development, WISE, said. “By advancing important in-person discussions on education challenges in the region, WISE is strengthening ties with its community in Colombia and in Latin America, and helping to identify and provide visibility to more impactful initiatives in the region.”
WISE’s effort at Concordia Americas Summit kicks off the planning for WISE@ – a regional summit to advance innovation and effective policy-making in education – in Colombia in 2020.
