QGBC Hosts Doha’s First Urban Thinkers Campus

In an effort to discuss the ongoing, fast-paced urban development in Qatar, Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) will host an exciting event entitled ‘Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) in Qatar - The Future of Doha: Implementing the New Urban Agenda’.
QGBC was awarded the right to host UTC in Doha as part of its mission to raise awareness about sustainable living in Qatar. The event, held in collaboration with the World Urban Campaign (WUC), an initiative of UN-Habitat, is planned to take place from May 15 – 16 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’, the event will explore the potential implications of UN-Habitat’s ‘New Urban Agenda’ on the future of Doha as an emerging city. Expert discussions will be focused around three main themes: Intelligent Cities, Sustainable Neighbourhoods, and Private Sector Engagement.

Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, QGBC Director, said: “Hosting this event with the World Urban Campaign is perfectly in line with QGBC’s mission to discuss trending issues that are affecting the lifestyle and sustainability of residents. Our city is faced with waves of fast-paced transformation, as an array of new neighbourhoods, districts, and community spaces emerge every year. It is important to take a moment to review this progress and discuss potential improvements and recommendations with leading experts and policy-makers.”

Registration for the event is open to a limited number of attendees. QGBC is working to ensure that it is attended by a wide range of stakeholders to allow for effective participation. Those interested are welcome to apply at

QGBC, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is working towards creating a sustainable future for Qatar through research, outreach, and education. The WUC is an advocacy and partnership platform created to raise awareness about positive urban change in order to achieve green, productive, safe, healthy, inclusive, and well planned cities.
