H.H. Sheikha Moza Attends ‘Smart Qatar’ Exhibition

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), accompanied by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, attended Qatar’s premier information and communication technology exhibition QITCOM.
Sheikha Moza toured QITCOM 2017, accompanied also by H.E. Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communication. She also met with local and international smart technology innovators and industry leaders including representatives from QF’s Hamad bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Science and Engineering.

Reflecting QF’s support and mentorship of innovation in Qatar, an array of forward facing QF centers and initiatives are participating in this year’s event. Among them is the Qatar National Library (QNL) in support of QITCOM’s Digital Youth Festival, having a particular focus on immersing Qatar’s youth with everything that is modern technology.
HBKU's Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), conducted a number of workshops on mobile application development at the exhibition, showcasing its participation in shaping the next generation of coders, and contributing to the nation’s innovation and research capacity. QCRI researchers highlighted their work with Microsoft on a 2D-to-3D conversion technology, which is set to revolutionize the way fans view football through an immersive virtual reality experience.

QF was also represented at the event through speakers Eng. Abdulla Al-Mehshadi, CEO of Msheireb Properties, a QF joint venture, responsible for delivering the Msheireb Downtown Doha urban regeneration project; Dr. Maher Hakim, Managing Director at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP); and Dr. Tareq Al-Ansari, assistant professor, Sustainability Division at HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering, while QF partner universities, Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), and Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) also held stands.
During her visit to QITCOM 2017, Sheikha Moza also visited exhibits by ICT Qatar’s Q-CERT, Vodafone, Qatar Rail, and the assistive technology group MADA at the event, which is taking place at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).
