Awsaj Academy hosted its first, free workshop on 5 November 2013, to teach parents how to prepare their children for life after graduation. Parents who attended learnt how to help their young grads make informed decisions about higher education and employment.
Parents were encouraged to help their children learn about different careers using online resources, and how to ensure their child receives assistance with special needs at university. The workshop covered issues such as the differences between scholarships, sponsorships, and other financial aid options.
It was conducted by two professional school counselors from Awsaj Academy, Mr Steve Stay and Ms Sally Challouhy, who explained the college admissions process and shared tips for helping students make their best applications.
A series of workshops is planned every month at Awsaj Academy to assist parents increase their knowledge and understanding of their children’s special educational needs. Upcoming workshops include ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Anger Management, Bullying, Assistive Technology, and Adolescence.
