Global Perspectives: Mental Health in a COVID-19 World

The global COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the mental health of communities around the world. For this online edition of the Education City Speaker Series, in collaboration with the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), we gather experts to discuss mental health in times of widespread disease, social distancing, and global anxiety. Areas featured in the discussion will include vulnerable groups such as those with pre-existing mental health conditions, healthcare workers, those at risk from PTSD, as well as people grieving the loss of a family member or friend.

The panelists are: • Dr. Dévora Kestel, Director of Mental Health and Substance Abuse at the World Health Organization • Dr. Sharifa Al Emadi, Executive Director at Doha International Family Institute, Qatar • Paola Barbarino, Chief Executive Officer of Alzheimer’s Disease International • Paul Farmer, Chief Executive Officer of Mind, United Kingdom • Yasmin Mogahed, Author and International Public Speaker • Dr. Janice Cooper, Senior Project Advisor – Global Mental Health, The Carter Center, Liberia/USA

The session will be moderated by Mishal Husain, global news presenter, journalist, and documentary-maker.
