As an institution honoring Qatar’s traditional admiration of the Arabian horse, the name of Qatar Foundation (QF) member AL SHAQAB is synonymous with equestrian excellence.
The new Marwan Club at AL SHAQAB is emblematic of the center’s pursuit of quality in all it does, boasting a lounge café, a restaurant, and facilities for meetings, workshops or other corporate events. Having opened its doors on 13 April 2014, the venue is undergoing a soft opening prior to its Grand Opening in October, and is offering all QF staff a 15 percent discount upon presentation of their QF ID cards.
The venue is the joint brainchild of AL SHAQAB and AMLAK, a member of Qatar Foundation that manages a strategic portfolio of assets through subsidiaries working within hospitality and leisure, venues and arenas, and residential and commercial space.
“This facility was built as an equestrian club to complement AL SHAQAB,” explained Jeremy Hagenbach, Director of Food and Beverage, Qatar National Convention Centre. AMLAK oversees the strategy and operation of QNCC on behalf of Qatar Foundation.
“We opened on 13 April with an initial two-week trial period at the facility that was open to all QF Staff. The response was very positive, and what followed was our current international menu.”
While the venue boasts stunning views of AL SHAQAB and superb service across its restaurant, café lounge and corporate facilities, according to Karim Abdelhamid, Corporate Director of Food and Beverage, AMLAK Hospitality, the best is yet to come.
“Right now is considered our soft opening, right until the Grand Opening in October,” he said.
“From October onwards, the venue will feature a new concept that will focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“We will be using locally grown produce in all our menus from local Qatari farms, and will use local farm milk for our dairy products. We are also planting a chef’s garden in the back of the clubhouse’s garden to use on a daily basis in our menus.”
While the array of venues across QF already provides a plethora of dining options for the QF community, this latest addition claims to be peerless in terms of scope, scale and service.
“In terms of how the Marwan Club at AL SHAQAB stands out, we’re bringing a contemporary approach to an international all-day dining menu that represents all the food groups,” said Hagenbach.
Featured items on the menu include a colorful Vitamin Salad, a Rider’s Club Sandwich, Singapore Fried Noodles, a selection of fresh sushi, and a Grilled Petit Filet Mignon.
Hagenbach added: “There’s something for everyone, and it’s important to us that our offerings are complemented by a host of beverage options, so we have fresh and healthy juices but also some more playful choices such as smoothies.
“Overall, this is about bringing the QF community to a brand new facility that is perfect for corporate events and is also a destination restaurant.”
