His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Ibrahim

His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Ibrahim is currently the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development. His career has seen him hold numerous high-ranking positions in Qatar and play a significant role in laying the foundations for Qatar’s energy industry.

Having obtained a PhD in Business Administration from New York University in 1969, HE Dr. Ibrahim served as Associate Professor of Business, Economics and Quantitative Methods at the University of Hawaii, before becoming Director of the Economic Department at the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries, and then Senior Economist at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.

In 1988, HE Dr. Ibrahim was appointed as economic expert in the office of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Amir, later becoming his economic advisor and continuing to serve in this role to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, until 2019. In 2006, he was appointed as Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Development Planning in Qatar, leading the development of Qatar National Vision 2030.

HE Dr. Ibrahim has held the positions of Chairman of Qatar University Research Advisory Board, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at RasGas, QatarGas, and Qatar Development Bank. He has also been a board member of Qatari companies and institutions including Qatar Central Bank, Qatar Petroleum, and the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment, as well as being a member of Qatar Foundation’s Advisory Board and Qatar University’s Board of Trustees.

His service to Qatar was recognized with the awarding of the Sash of Hamad bin Khalifa, with his accolades also including the Al-Attiyah Lifetime Achievement Award for his role in the advancement of Qatar’s energy industry; the Meed Visionary Award for his contribution to shaping Qatar National Vision 2030; the Oil and Gas Journal’s Man of the Year Award; and the Liquefied Natural Gas Visionary Award at the CWC World LNG Summit. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee in recognition of his contribution to advancing human rights and freedom.
