Dr. Saif Al-Hajari’s association with Qatar Foundation (QF) dates back to its establishment, as its Vice Chairman from 1995 to 2011.
He was one of the founders of Qatar Academy, QF’s first school – where he also served as Chairman - and The Learning Center (later Awsaj Academy); Founder and Vice Chairman of Qatar Leadership Academy; Founder of the Qur’anic Botanic Garden; and Founder and Chairman of Qatar Music Academy and Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
Dr. Al-Hajari began his career teaching within the Department of Geology at Qatar University, where he remained until 2002. During this time, he was a member of the Standing Committee for Environmental Protection in Qatar, and Director of the Planning and Follow-up Unit at the Youth and Sports General Authority. He founded and became General Supervisor of Al Noor Institute for the Blind, and also founded and chaired the Friends of the Environment Centre in Qatar.
His positions have included being a member of the League of Arab States committee on environmental education, awareness and media in the Arab world; a member of the establishing committee and Chairman of the GCC Award for Best Environmental Activities; an advisor to the Arab Union for Youth and the Environment; founder and Chairman of Qatar Olympic Committee’s Qatar Sport and Environment Committee; and Vice Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce’s Special Education Committee.
He is a United Nations Commissioner for the UN Sustainable Development Goalsm and an International Ambassador with the Gulf Network for Social Responsibility. His varied inventions include devices to support the education of those with visual impairments, and he is the holder of four patents.
Among the awards Dr. Al-Hajari has received are Man of the Environment received from the late Qaboos bin Said Sultan of Oman; the International FORD Award; the Grand Prize for Excellence in Visual Impairment; the Presidential Medal of Merit for Excellence in the field of Social Responsibility from the Republic of the Sudan; the International Excellence Document Award for Social Responsibility (the most influential Arab personalities); and the Best e-Government Service Award for the Qatar eNature Application.
Dr. Al-Hajari has been selected among the 500 most influential figures in the Arab world (37th), and has been named among the 100 most influential figures in the Arab world (25th). Earlier, the Qatar Green Building Council awarded Dr. Al-Hajari by the title (Sustainability Pioneer).
Dr. Al Hajari holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Geology from Qatar University, and a Master’s degree in Geosciences and a PhD in the Philosophy of Geology from the University of South Carolina in the US.
