Nicole Bien has held education leadership and research positions in the United States, Australia, and the Netherlands. She is currently Director of Learning and Teaching at the International Baccalaureate. Her journey in education began as an advocate for at-risk youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. She provided early strategic leadership to Fresh Lifelines for Youth that provides legal education, leadership training, and mentoring to incarcerated teens. That experience led to her doctoral research on inclusive education and professional focus in curriculum design and pedagogy that honor children’s voice, choice, and ownership, as well as inspiring the joy of learning and action within the community. Nicole has served as education fellow, head of school, and board leader at international schools and non-profit organizations. She holds a PhD in education from the University of Sydney, MBA from Columbia University, and BA from Yale University.
