Over the past twenty years, Education City grew from a single school to a multi university campus with students from over 50 countries and an enormous research fund, offering endless opportunities for the advancement of knowledge and research across all disciplines. The growth has been tremendous and unprecedented to say the least.
Creating the physical environment for all of this to happen had to be a statement in and of itself. Despite many challenges, building Education City has been a live demonstration of a commitment to the iconicity of education and quality design. In building for education, Qatar Foundation sought the opportunity to exhibit and learn about architecture itself in the process.
With renowned architects contributing to the design of the campus's various buildings, it became a national landmark signifying the role Qatar Foundation plays as a catalyst for the nation’s transition from a hydrocarbon-based economy to a knowledge-based economy. This year, we celebrate the investment made thus far in Education City's architecture in a special event designed to showcase its significant projects and offer a platform for discussions and critique to better capture the learning from this huge endeavor.
Focusing on Education City, this conference brings internationally renowned thinkers and architects to examine the architecture of learning. From bottom up initiatives to global projects, contributors from the region and worldwide will join in creating a unique platform for discussion, critique and sharing.
This conference is planned in partnership with Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and is partially offered as learning credits for AIA members in collaboration with the AIA Middle East Chapter.
Conference sessions will be held in English.
