Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) recently welcomed His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to its facilities. His Royal Highness, who is Patron of the year-long ‘Qatar UK 2013’ initiative, visited members operating from within QSTP that have strong links with the United Kingdom.
Dr Mohamed Fathy Saoud, President of Qatar Foundation (QF), Dr Thomas Zacharia, Executive Vice President of Research and Development, QF, and Hamad Al Kuwari, Managing Director of QSTP, greeted His Royal Highness.
The Royal tour commenced with a viewing of a model of QSTP, when the Prince was able to appreciate the structure and layout of QF’s state-of-the-art science and technology park. Al Kuwari briefed His Royal Highness on the UK companies operating within QSTP and the type of cutting-edge technology development being conducted by them.
The Prince, who was accompanied by UK dignitaries, including His Excellency Michael O’Neill CMG, UK Ambassador to Qatar, proceeded to visit individual research facilities, including Qatar Robotic Surgery Center, where His Royal Highness experienced using a medical robotic simulator, Williams Technology Centre, and Qatar Shell Research and Technology Center.
Speaking during the visit, Al Kuwari said: “We are honored to have His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales visit our facility and view the various technology development endeavors being carried out here at QSTP.
“It was a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate Qatar’s efforts towards becoming a progressive, knowledge-based economy with a vested interest in high-quality research.”
Before His Royal Highness departed QSTP, Dr Fathy Saoud presented him with a gift, a golden branch from the Sidra tree, to commemorate the visit.
