Qatar Debate
What is QatarDebate?
QatarDebate is dedicated to the development of debaters as leaders of tomorrow. We are so proud to have our debaters from Qatar take part in national and international debating activities and competitions.
Executive Director
QatarDebate develops and supports formal public debate among students and young people in Qatar and the Middle East. Founded in 2007 as a national student debating organization, its main aim is to promote free speech and open discussion throughout the Arab world and beyond.
Success in Qatar, the region and the world
QatarDebate has brought experienced debaters and coaches, including some former world champions, to Doha to share their experiences with current Qatar students.
Geared towards secondary schools and universities, QatarDebate has involved students from 30 schools around Qatar in workshops, annual debate leagues, national competitions and Qatar National Schools’ Debating Team.
Winning internationally
QatarDebate has enjoyed significant success on the international debating stage. Competing in 2008 and 2009 World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) held in Washington DC, USA and Athens, Greece, it won four out of eight debates and ranked well internationally as a new team.
In February 2010, the 22nd WSDC was held in Qatar. There were teams from 50 competing nations, including new teams from Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco and the UAE.
